First legal apprenticeship launched by Withy King

Withy King, Bath’s largest law firm, is to take on its first legal apprentice as the industry looks to widen its intake of trainees.

The apprenticeship will give a school-leaver with an interest in the legal profession the opportunity to train as a legal assistant in the firm’s Personal Injury team, based at Midland Bridge.

Apprenticeships are becoming more increasingly common in the legal sector as an alternative to the traditional way of gaining entry to the professional via a university degree and training contract.

Recruitment advisor in Withy King’s HR team, Sam Ford, said: “This is an exciting opportunity for someone with an interest in law to get a foot in the door and gain practical experience of what it means to work in the legal profession and the wide range of roles available, from legal administrators to paralegals and solicitors.

“The vocational route is becoming increasingly popular and could be an ideal route into the law for an ambitious school-leaver. Ideally, we’re looking for someone with an interest in law and A Levels but all applicants with at least five GCSEs at grades A-C will be considered.”

Withy King will be working closely with national firm Damar Training, which will administer the apprenticeship, provide one-to-one training and conduct on-site assessments during the 14-month apprenticeship contract. It is hoped that this will develop into a full-time legal assistant role and a stepping stone for further career development.
