The University of Bath has been named as the best in the South West for a third consecutive year in a prestigious league table.
It is also ranked 11th nationally – the same as last year – out of 131 UK universities appearing in the latest Complete University Guide.
Bath Spa University came 10th in the South West and 103rd in the national table – a fall of 13 places on last year’s ranking.
The University of Bath, pictured, which has just over 15,000 students, has 18 of its 27 subjects in the guide’s top 10 – with top ranking nationally for architecture and marketing.
Other highly-placed subjects for the university included Sports Science and psychology (both second), sociology (third), business & management (fourth), and aeronautical & manufacturing engineering, civil engineering, and mechanical engineering (all fifth).
The university’s president and vice-chancellor, Prof Dame Glynis Breakwell, said: “I am delighted that the university has been ranked as the region’s top university for a third consecutive year and maintained its overall position in the national rankings.
“Once again, a significant number of our subjects have been recognised in the top 10. It is especially pleasing to see two of our strongest disciplines – architecture and marketing – rated as the best in the country.”
The Complete University Guide uses 10 criteria to assess a university’s overall performance – student satisfaction; research quality; research intensity; entry standards; student: staff ratio; spending on academic services; spending on student facilities; good honours degrees; graduate prospects; and degree completion.
The universities of Exeter and Bristol came second and third in the South West table and 12th and 15th respectively in the national rankings.
