Sustainable ice cream maker Marshfield Farm is looking forward to a cool summer after securing the contract to be the new sole supplier of scoop ice cream on Weston-super-Mare’s the Grand Pier.
The firm, which celebrated three decades of ice cream making last year, will be selling nine varieties of ice cream and two types of sorbet to pier visitors. 
Flavours range from traditional favourites such as vanilla to Marshfield’s latest creation, birthday cake-flavour ice cream, which includes sponge pieces, a strawberry shimmer ripple and handfuls of star-shaped sugar strands.
Marshfield Farm operates a ‘cow-to-cone’ production process, which means holidaymakers and day trippers on Weston Pier will be tasting ice cream made with organic milk from one of the farm’s cows just 24 hours earlier.
The farm has 250 cows on its 1,100 acres near Bath, with its owners the Hawking family striving to be as sustainable and self-sufficient as possible.
Will Hawking said: “We are absolutely thrilled to solidify our relationship with the Grand Pier. It’s a site our family have always enjoyed visiting and supplying over the years and we’re looking forward to visiting again very soon to grab a cone with a view.”
Weston-super-Mare Grand Pier food and beverage manager Liz Kallias added: “As a company, Marshfield’s Farm is very green and carbon neutral, which is important to us.
“They use organic milk, only use sustainable palm oil, and produce all the milk that they use for their ice cream on-site at the farm. All their packaging is recyclable, too.
“Using them as our sole supplier for scoop ice cream means we significantly reduce our food miles, which is good for environment.
“And, of course, on top of all that, they produce some absolutely incredible ice cream, so it’s really nice to be working with them.”
