Sports studies at University of Bath among world’s best, according to new global ranking

The University of Bath has been named in a new global ranking as one of the top 10 places in the world to study sport, and in the top 100 for another seven subjects, including business.

The QS World University Rankings, compiled by higher education analysts QS Quacquarelli Symonds, rated Bath as one of the world’s top universities for the study of 23 subjects.

The university, which has a £35m sports training village, pictured, used by many of the UK's elite athletes, is is ranked joint-seventh in the world to study sports-related subjects, while its business and management studies, architecture and the built environment, chemical engineering, mathematics, development studies, and social policy and administration courses all earned top 100 placings in their respective subject areas.

The rankings name the world’s best universities for the study of 51 academic disciplines and provide comparative analysis of 14,435 individual university programmes, taken by students at 1,452 universities. 

The scores are calculated through an analysis of performance across four areas: academic reputation, employer reputation, citations per research paper, and a measure of the productivity and impact of the work published by an institutions' scientists and scholars.

Bath also scored highly in the domestic rankings, with 14 subjects offered at the university earning top 20 places.

The university, which has nearly 19,000 students, regularly ranks highly in national league tables. It is ranked sixth in the UK by The Guardian University Guide 2020, fifth for graduate prospects in The Times & Sunday Times Good University Guide 2020, and  ninth out of 131 UK universities in the Complete University Guide 2020.
