Premier Inn, the UK’s largest budget hotel chain, has started construction work on three hotels in the Bath area creating around 120 jobs.
The firm, part of the giant Whitbread leisure group, is building an 107-bedroom hotel in Bath itself, which will recruit approximately 50 people, a 60-bedroom hotel at Glastonbury with around 65 jobs, and an 80-bedroom hotel at Trowbridge, creating around 45 jobs.
The hotels are among nine sites across the South West and South Wales where Premier Inn is developing new outlets. It has also recently acquired six new hotel and restaurant sites in the region as it aims to boost its presence in the region.
Whitbread plans to increase the 49,000 Premier Inn bedrooms across the UK today to 65,000 by 2016.
Whitbread head of hotels and restaurants acquisitions (UK and Ireland) John Bates said: “We recently reported excellent sales growth at Premier Inn and we are expanding aggressively across the UK as we respond to strong demand and our customer’s desire for more Premier Inn bedrooms in more great locations.
"The South West is a key market for us and these latest deals add more excellent sites.”
In February Whitbread said it planned to create 10,000 jobs in the UK over the next three years as it expands its Costa and Premier Inn brands with the aim of half the jobs at new hotel and restaurant sites going to local unemployed people.
