Businesses can gain a better understanding of Customs and VAT procedures when they trade overseas at an event staged this week.
Organised by UK Trade & Investment (UKTI) South West in partnership with HM Revenue and Customs (HMRC), the event will to explain the customs and VAT processes involved in importing and exporting, and raise awareness of the legal obligations to comply with key changes in legislation. It is being held at Leigh Court, Leigh Woods, this Wednesday.
The full-day seminar will feature presentations by UKTI experts and HMRC International Trade Development Liaison Officers and will include an explanation of the National Export System and an overview of the Authorised Economic Operator (AEO) programme, including security and safety.
Delegates will also have the opportunity to find out about record keeping, customs penalties and the UK Single Window – a one-stop shop for submitting information such as declarations and permit applications.
UKTI regional director Russell Jones said: “Many businesses considering international trade are often put off because they feel they don’t have sufficient knowledge of Customs and VAT and the legislation around imports and exports.
“This seminar is designed to give an introduction to this important field and offer expert advice. By working together with HMRC in this way we can help businesses understand that Customs and VAT issues may not be as complicated as they think and they should not be a barrier to international trade.”
