Bath Building Society has launched its annual charity grant awards programme and is seeking applications from local charities and community groups.
The total value of the awards has been increased to £5,000 this year to reflect the growing number of entrants it received in 2011 while the Society will also give away balloon flight tickets which community groups can auction and additional funds.
To be eligible for an award, organisations must turn over less than £150,000 a year and operate and benefit people in Bath Building Society’s business areas of Bath and North East Somerset, Somerset, Wiltshire, Gloucestershire and Bristol. Applications must be submitted by June 11.
Each application is reviewed by a panel of judges including Bath Building Society employees, the Mayor of Bath and representatives from The Bath Chronicle and Breeze FM. Selected beneficiaries will attend an awards ceremony in July where they will be presented with their prizes.
Bath Building Society chief executive Dick Jenkins said: “This programme supports organisations which benefit the local communities that we operate within. We hope that our financial contributions help these groups to continue their good work and to run many worthwhile activities. We look forward to receiving applications from various groups doing a great deal of fantastic work in their local communities.”
Ralph Oswick, organiser of one of last year’s beneficiaries, Widcombe Rising, added: “Widcombe Rising is one of Bath's biggest street parties. This family fun day in June fills our streets with fun, food and frolics and really brings the community together. This year’s theme is the Olympics and we are hoping that the event will be a huge success. The invaluable support we received from Bath Building Society will help run the children's creative corner.”
