Tim O’Sullivan has been appointed as general manager of the four-star Apex City of Bath Hotel, which will be the city’s largest when it opens next summer.
The £35m, 177-bedroom hotel on James Street West will include a swimming pool, gym, and conference and meeting facilities with a 420-person capacity.
It will also create around 120 full-time jobs, including in front-of-house, kitchen and housekeeping roles.
Irish-born Tim, pictured, has more than 20 years’ experience in the hotel industry. Most recently he has held regional operations manager roles for the Premier Inn chain in the Midlands and Home Counties where he led a team of 21 general managers.
He said: “I am not only looking forward to working for such a progressive hotel group, but also relishing the opportunity to lead a team that gives Bath its only city centre conference space. Apex is extremely proud to be delivering an excellent hotel, worthy of a World Heritage City, while also spearheading a unique city centre conference and events venue.”
Tim, who takes up his role in January, said Bath’s business community had a unique way of working together and he was looking forward to getting to know the hotel’s neighbours and fellow hoteliers in the city.
“I am confident there will be many exciting projects to work on together in the months and years ahead,” he said.
“At the new Apex City of Bath guests will experience a genuine ‘warmer welcome’. The attention to detail and excellent customer service is at the heart of both my, and Apex Hotels’, way of thinking. I have no doubt the new hotel will be a welcome addition to an already vibrant and thriving city of culture.”
Edinburgh-based Apex operates nine hotels in Scotland and London. Apex City of Bath will be its first venture in England outside the capital. The firm, established in 1996, has a turnover of £57.2m.
Managing director Yousif Al-Wagga said: “Tim has an excellent reputation and we see his appointment as a key development for the hotel.
“Apex is proud to nurture existing talent within its group, but also ambitious to strengthen its team with experienced professionals from other parts of the industry.”
