The corporate team at Bath law firm Withy King has advised the shareholders of Bradford-on-Avon based PSV (UK) on its sale to Breedon Aggregates, the UK’s largest independent aggregates business.
Withy King helped to negotiate the deal on behalf of shareholders Glyn Woolley and Ed Reed. PSV (UK) owned the sole and exclusive rights to premium quality aggregate from Tan y Foel Quarry in Welshpool, Powys, which is used in asphalt for anti-skid road surfaces.
Martin Longmore and Dominic Bourquin of Bath accountants and business advisers, Monahans, worked alongside the Withy King team on the deal, financial details of which have not been disclosed.
David Cavaliero, pictured, partner and head of the corporate team at Withy King in Bath, said: “I am full of admiration for the two company owners, who identified that the aggregate coming out of the Tan y Foel Quarry was of a very high quality, ideal for specialist road applications, and then developed the necessary relationships within the road building industry to create the demand for the aggregate.
“Then, after many years of successful trading, to be able to sell the company to Breedon Aggregates is quite a success story. I was very pleased that Withy King was able to use its experience and skills to support Glyn and Ed to realise the final chapter.”
Breedon Aggregates operates 52 quarries, 27 asphalt plants, 61 ready-mixed concrete plants and three concrete block plants in England and Scotland and employs 1,250 people. In the 10 months to October, it spent around £40m on acquisitions. The firm’s revenues rose 20% to £226m over the same period.
