Feilden Clegg Bradley Studios, the Bath-based architects, have been appointed as lead architects for the masterplanning of Plymouth College of Art’s expansion and refurbishment that will pave the way for a 10-year redevelopment.

The project will review the accommodation on college’s  main Tavistock Place site and two other nearby satellite sites, looking at ways to improve the use of space and consider consolidation of the college onto its main site.

The first phase will include the construction of a two-storey FE centre with ground floor workshops and a dedicated FE teaching and studio facility on the first floor.

The masterplan is expected to be defined by the end of this year and the first phase plans submitted for approval in spring 2011.

Andy Theobald of Feilden Clegg Bradley said: “The opportunity to review and help define the future character of the college is particularly exciting. The site is located very centrally within Plymouth and proposed development along Charles Street will have significant impact in that area.”

Feilden Clegg Bradley Studios are also working on a major extension of the Faculty of Art and Design at Manchester Metropolitan University, which is expected to complete in September 2012.
