Dutch creative workspace pioneer Spaces is to open a hub in Bath, the second serviced centre provider to target the city in four months.
The Amsterdam-based group, which launched in the UK in 2015, is converting two floors of Northgate House at the junction of the High Street, Upper Borough Walls and Bridge Street into a 17,868 sq ft work hub.
Opening next month, it will house a large, open-plan co-working area along with meeting rooms available to hire and more than 100 private offices.
Spaces says its centres offer professionals a working environment with a “unique entrepreneurial ethos” that are designed to meet the varied workplace requirements of today’s businesses.
The firm was founded in 2006 and now has a global footprint spanning more than 25 countries including the US, Singapore, India, France and Mexico.
It has opened eight centres in the UK, including four in London as well as Glasgow, Liverpool and Brighton. Bath will be its first in the West of England and is one of four due to open next month – the others are in Reading, Newcastle and Uxbridge.
Spaces UK CEO Richard Morris: “The beautiful city of Bath is a sought-after location for many firms, as it combines the cachet of an historic, upmarket location with a thriving business and tech scene and fantastic transport links. This makes it the perfect fit for one of our Spaces hubs and we’re excited to be establishing a presence here.”
In July London-based serviced office group Clarendon opened a 13,000 sq ft business centre at Cambridge House on Henry Street to meet what it says is an untapped demand for high-end space in Bath.
While the city has burgeoning tech and creative sectors with a growing need for modern workspaces, it has lagged behind in attracting the new breed of serviced suppliers that have opened centres in Bristol.
Last month a report by national property consultancy Lambert Smith Hampton (LSH) warned of a ‘chronic’ shortage of business accommodation in the city as more office buildings are converted for residential use.
