Bath-based ‘agency for the passion economy’ launched with a mission to support UK’s content creators

A new project aiming to grow the UK’s creative sector by providing services, support and enhanced revenue streams has been launched in Bath.

Describing itself as the agency for the passion economy, Creatonomy’s sole goal is to help subject matter experts earn income from their knowledge, expertise and passions.

It is the result of a collaboration between three digital pioneers with extensive experience on the frontline of digital content creation and monetisation.

They want to help content creators break away from the restrictions of online advertising and capricious social media algorithms.

Creatonomy will do this by helping high-potential creators bring their digital content to life with publishing and monetisation strategies, including newsletters, subscription websites, courses and more.

The Creatonomy team includes Evan Rudowski, the former Excite EMEA leader, co-founder of Bath-based subscription platform SubHub and veteran digital consultant, Geoff Sutton, a former Fleet Street journalist, digital consultant and Microsoft International media division executive, and Rumbi Pfende, co-founder of MAMA.Codes and media specialist who is passionate about social impact.

Creatonomy’s early-stage development, including a series of pilot projects and collaborations, has been helped with a maximum £50,000 grant from by Innovate UK’s Creative Catalyst programme, which is focused on supporting media, publishing and other creative industries.

Creatonomy is now looking to work closely with subject matter experts who have the potential to earn more from their content by establishing subscription and other ground-breaking revenue models.

The firm, which also has a base in London, will support creators with editorial services and selection and management of delivery platforms and channels – areas where many can lack experience or capacity.

Creatonomy defines a high-potential creator as someone with unique expertise, a reputation and a following in their given area of interest.

The grant was awarded by Innovate UK to Submachine Limited, which operates the SubHub platform and which will help to incubate Creatonomy in Bath during the trial period.

Creatonomy will be platform-agnostic, choosing the best delivery channels to enable each creator to maximise the value of their efforts.

Evan Rudowski said: “We are thrilled to be launching Creatonomy at a time when many creators are publishing incredibly brilliant content without seeing the financial returns they deserve.

“We believe that we can collaborate with great creators to build new revenue streams and revolutionise the creator economy in the UK.

“We are grateful for the support of Innovate UK with a Creative Catalyst grant that enables us to immediately step into the arena and begin working with high-potential creators who consistently demonstrate that their knowledge and passions hold more value than they are currently receiving.”

Geoff Sutton added: “The quality of content available from creators is at an all-time high, but unfortunately the ability to make money from it doesn’t currently match up.

“With Creatonomy, we are confident we can build new models to drive the revenue that creators deserve for their skill, knowledge and passion.

“It is a very exciting moment and we are grateful to Innovate UK for recognising the importance of this mission.”
