Bath’s £5.5 million development of its Roman Baths is set to go head-to-head with others from the rest of the UK, Europe, Africa and the USA, to be named best in category and achieve the ultimate accolade Global Project of the Year at the RICS Awards grand final 2011.
The project was crowned winner, along with three others from the South West, across the four categories in the RICS South West Awards in May. It will now take on rest of the world at the glitzy global grand final at the Savoy in London on 21 October, hosted by TV presenter Julia Bradbury.
Bath’s investment programme was used to transform the accessibility of the Roman Baths and included stonework conservation, improving access for people with mobility, hearing and visual impairments, launching a new ‘people led’ interpretation telling the story of the Baths and refurbishing the two onsite shops together with introducing new merchandise inspired by the Baths.
The annual RICS Awards were created to recognise the achievements of land, property and construction professionals. James Gregory, RICS South West chair and partner at Alder King, commented: “The exceptional quality and design of the four category winners of the RICS South West Awards 2011 give these projects an excellent chance on the global stage. We wish them the best of luck.”
