Bath Business Blog: People against Poverty – looking ahead to 2025

People against Poverty (PaP) has just held its 2023-24 AGM and annual celebration for supporters at which it presented a bold strategy for growth for 2025.

Despite being small charity, PaP supports 18 projects across six countries – the UK, Haiti, India, Malawi, Romania and Tanzania – and has helped thousands of people on a pathway out of poverty towards a life of dignity and self-sustainability.

It funds projects that fall under its four core programmes – Life Essentials, Building Skills, Sustaining Life and Crisis Support – and over the past year its portfolio has grown, including incorporating three new projects: Seeds for Sustainability and Women’s Self Help Groups in Malawi and Preparing4Work in the UK.

PaP has set solid foundations over the past two years and, looking ahead, has much to be positive about as it strives to make the world a better place through a vision that is practical, collaborative and respects the context of the culture of the countries in which it operates.

The charity is driving growth across three areas:

  1. Reach. Increasing its programme portfolio and its visibility through social media and PR.
  2. Impact. Improving quality standards through partnership development.
  3. Income Attracting new individual and business supporters to its #movementforchange and creating opportunities across multiple income streams including grant and trust income, challenge events and crowdfunding for specific projects

In addition to general donations from individuals and businesses, PaP now has a series of specific projects available for funding, ranging from approximately £1,200 to £10,000 for one year’s support.

Funding can be from a single organisation or a group of several companies.

Projects that PaP is looking to fund for the forthcoming year include:

  • Fresh Veg for Foodbanks (UK) – providing fresh veg to those in financial difficulties.
  • Seeds for Sustainability (Malawi) – helping families grow additional crops to sell and become self-sufficient.
  • A new cohort of 60 women to take part in Women’s Self Help Groups (Malawi) – providing training in business skills and access to a group loan scheme
  • An English grammar teacher for a children’s home (India) – increasing opportunities for future employment

Companies supporting specific projects like these, or that make general donations to support the charity’s work, are recognised on PaP’s marketing platforms, become a part of its vibrant business community and receive regular line-of-sight updates.
