The Bath office of national property consultancy Carter Jonas has strengthened its team with the appointment of Martin Walker from rival Jones Lang LaSalle (JLL).
The move reunites Martin, a chartered building surveyor who has worked in Bath since 1976, with former colleague Mike McElhinney.
Mike, a former director at JLL, moved to Carter Jonas last October shortly after JLL closed its Bath office.
Martin, pictured, has worked on many of the Bath’s important historical buildings for commercial and residential use involving surveying, refurbishment and restoration.
He said: “’I’m thrilled to continue working in a city I love. I started work in Bath at the time of the first of my four recessions and I have seen it through some difficult periods so to be starting a new challenge in what is shaping up to be a more positive commercial environment is very exciting.”
He looks upon his work on conservation projects as breathing new life into listed buildings.
“Respecting the history of older buildings while making them usable for modern day requirements is definitely a skill and marrying the two together successfully is something I relish,” he said.
He has worked on properties with such diverse uses as Chimichanga, a Mexican restaurant at Bluecoat House, Sawclose and St John’s Hospital Trust almshouses as well as Jolly’s department store
Head of Carter Jonas’ Bath office, Philip Marshall, said: “Martin’s work will complement that of our commercial and valuations teams and his expertise will boost the extent of the service we offer directly out of the Bath office, enhancing the service we offer to clients across the region.
Carter Jonas is now the only national property agency with an office in the city. It provides a service across all aspects of the property market – residential, commercial, rural, planning and development, valuations and building surveying.
