Bath City FC’s Twerton Park stadium is to become the home of a new Bath College scheme to help young people not in employment, education or training develop new skills.
The Prince’s Trust Team Programme, which starts this autumn, is a free 12-week-course for 16-25 year olds. As well as equipping them with work skills and setting goals, I will enable them to meet new challenges and enjoy potentially life-changing experiences.
Each team in the programme will consists of around 12 young people from various backgrounds and abilities who will work together in a friendly and supportive collaborative environment to help them achieve their goals.
Participants also have the chance to focus on job search activities and work towards recognised qualifications in employment, teamwork & community skills, first aid and food hygiene.
Team leaders will guide learners through each phase of the programme, which includes an action-packed residential element, a work placement, challenging community-based projects and an end-of-team presentation to celebrate their achievements.
Princes Trust team leader for Bath College, Ben Perry, said all those who took part in the inaugural course earlier this year went into employment or education by the end of the programme.
Bath City FC general manager Carole Banwell added that the club was delighted to become the new home for the programme.
“The football club is the ideal location for the delivery of this superb scheme, based as we are in an area of Bath with below-average education and employment outcomes,” she said.
“We want to be more than just a classroom venue, by collaborating with the College and with our community, commercial and sporting partners to create richer and long-lasting opportunities for the students.”
