Writer Alex Clark has been appointed as artistic director of words & literature at Bath Festivals. Alex, pictured, is an editor and literary journalist who frequently writes for The Guardian, The Observer and The Times Literary Supplement.

She regularly chairs literary events and has also been on the judging panel for the Booker Prize.

Alex hosts the Vintage Podcast (www.acast.com/vintagepodcast) – a monthly books podcast with author interviews, book news and discussions on a variety of literary subjects – and she will soon be launching a podcast for Bath Festivals.

Bath Festivals chair John Cullum said:Alex’s appointment is an important and exciting prospect.

“Retaining the highest calibre of artistic direction is vital to maintaining the integrity of our festivals, especially in an era of major challenges from traditional financial sources.

“I have no doubt that Alex will continue to lead us towards an increasingly popular and inventive programme that will reach a wider and more diverse audience.”

Alex said she was thrilled to be joining the Bath Festivals team.

“I’ve been participating in the Literature Festival for several years and have witnessed first-hand the imagination and dedication that goes into making it such a special experience for audiences and authors alike.

“I look forward to taking on this new role and ensuring that the Bath Festival literary events continue to be unmissable dates in the literary year and an integral part of Bath’s cultural life.”

Bath Festivals brings leading international performers, writers and thinkers to Bath every year to inspire, entertain and challenge audiences of all ages and artistic tastes.

A charitable organization, it is behind the internationally acclaimed Bath International Music Festival, the Bath Literature Festival and the inspirational Bath Children’s Literature Festival.

It also acts as a central hub for the arts in Bath and North East Somerset, serving 120 festivals, events and local arts organisations through the Bath Box Office.

Bath Festivals is funded by Arts Council England in 2015/16 through its Grants for the Arts programme, and also receives support from Bath & North East Somerset Council.
