Children’s Hospice South West has transformed its care delivery operations, thanks to support from Bath-headquartered change management consultancy Nine Feet Tall.
The charity, which cares for children and young people living with life-limiting conditions and their families from its three hospices in Devon, Somerset and Cornwall, commissioned Nine Feet Tall to manage the roll-out of a new data system.
The changes, supporting 173 staff within the charity’s care teams, followed new regulatory guidelines by NHS England.
Improvements mean the teams can now input and access information through handheld devices while directly supporting families.
Over a period of 11 months, Nine Feet Tall, which specialises in delivering complex change, provided project management support, ensuring progress in digitalising all care plans and note taking and training front line staff in the use of handheld devices used to support the new system.
Its onboarding also ensured that staff at all levels could use the new technology.
Children’s Hospice South West deputy CEO Jess Patel said: “The new digital technology continues to transform our operations and making the best use of digital efficiencies, allowing our skilled care teams to focus on providing the best quality care to the children who visit our hospices.
“Offering extra capacity within our internal team, Nine Feet Tall worked alongside our digital colleagues, providing expert project management support from start to finish.
“This specialist support ensured the transition to the new digital system ran as smoothly as possible.”
Nine Feet Tall, which celebrates its 20th anniversary this year and also has offices in London and Manchester, combines the expertise of its people and the power of technology to focus on achieving results that make companies and businesses more profitable, agile and competitive.
While specialising in retail and consumer goods, housing, construction, manufacturing, legal and financial services, the consultancy also has extensive experience supporting the third sector, delivering practical and strategic solutions to help charities and not-for-profit organisations navigate their challenges.
Nine Feet Tall principle consultant Lucy Zambrano, who led on the Children’s Hospice South West project, said the charity had an outstanding team dedicated to delivering hospice care and professional family support services – so it was important that everyone felt empowered and equipped to do their job efficiently and effectively.
“Transitioning to an entirely new technology like this is a real challenge, taking time and resource, and requiring specialist expertise,” she added.
“We’re thrilled to see how well the care teams have adopted the new system. All data is now stored and can be accessed centrally and consistently, and collaboration and user experiences have improved across all Children’s Hospice South West sites.”
Nine Feet Tall was last month named in the Sunday Times annual ‘Best Places to Work’ list, one of UK’s top workplaces in a prestigious annual survey.
