Fast-growing Mexican restaurant Tortilla chain has opened its first outlet in Bath. The unit, in the former Oasis store on Cheap Street, is the London-based group’s 47th restaurant and follows two openings in Bristol.
Founded in October 2007 by Brandon and Jen Stephens after after a four-year search for “decent burritos and tacos” in London, Tortilla is the UK’s largest fast-casual Mexican restaurant brand offering fully customisable and authentic California-style Mexican menu.
As well as eat-in and takeaway locations across the UK it also offers home deliveries through nationwide partnerships with Deliveroo, SSP Group and Compass Group.
The group also operates 10 stores in Dubai and Saudi Arabia through an exclusive franchise partnership.
The Bath restaurant is led by general manager David Souter and has created 25 jobs across front-of-house, kitchen and management roles.
Tortilla chief operations officer Jason Thomas said: “We have a fantastic location on Cheap Street which will provide locals and visitors to the city with a convenient and delicious spot for lunch, dinner, or after work drinks.
“We look forward to welcoming plenty of happy customers in store and playing our part in this thriving local community.”
Jason knows Bath well, having opened the city’s Loch Fyne fish restaurant on Milsom Street while working for the group.
Tortilla, which in 2020 served more than 4.4m customers, says food provenance and quality is a critical component of its proposition with all fillings for its burritos, tacos and quesadillas prepared in-house and toppings prepared fresh daily free from artificial flavours of preservatives.
Customers can build their own meal with a choice of fillings such as Mexican rice, black beans, grilled seasonal vegetables and fresh mild, medium and hot salsas, including Tortilla’s own fresh, hand-smashed guacamole.
The group floated on the London Stock Exchange last year, raising £5m.
