A rugby world cup sweepstake among local businesses and a rugby-themed quiz night raised £2,880 for the Bath Rugby Foundation.
The initiatives were organised by Bath-based PR consultancy Geometry PR, which has raised funds for the charity for the past 10 years.
Twenty businesses took part in the sweepstake – one for each country in the competition – with Jim Currant and John Lyddy of Box-based independent car dealers Minerva Sports & Prestige emerging as winners having picked New Zealand. The pair won a trip to Bath Rugby’s Farleigh House elite training centre.
The quiz night at the Green Park Function Rooms was sold out, attracting 120 people from the business community. The victorious team, from financial services company Fidelius, won lunch for four at the Brasserie.
Geometry PR managing director Linda Donaldson said: “The Bath business community are very good at getting behind the Bath Rugby Foundation and we felt that the rugby world cup was a great opportunity to have a bit of fun and raise some money for our corporate charity.
“I am really pleased that we managed to raise so much and very grateful to everyone that took part.”
Linda praised restaurant Graze, which laid on a launch evening at the Brewhouse, and the Green Park Function Rooms, which once again hosted the quiz night and provided the prize for the winning team.
Bath Rugby Foundation head of fundraising & sponsorship Halena Coury said: “We are so grateful to all the businesses that took part but especially to Linda and her team that worked hard to deliver some fun and unusual fundraising activity.
“The money raised by Geometry will help fund the Inclusive After School Club over the coming year.”
The Bath Rugby Foundation supports children of all ages and abilities in the community through a number of educational and sports programmes. It relies entirely on donations and grants and has a number of fundraising challenges for 2016 including spaces in the Bath Half Marathon and an opportunity to cycle the length of Ireland.
