A creative technology studio based near Bath has become one of only seven agencies to win a coveted place on the BBC’s digital design roster.
Aer Studios, based in Box, was appointed after a hotly contested pitch involving many of the world’s best user UX (user experience) and design agencies.
The only agency in the South West to be successful, Aer Studios will now spend four years working in close collaboration with the BBC UX&D team across its entire digital estate, with a focus on young audiences and learning.
Previous projects undertaken by the BBC UX&D team include building a digital archive of the entire back catalogue of the iconic Desert Island Discs radio show, adapting the BBC’s sports coverage for mobile gadgets and using voice tech for the BBC Food output.
Aer Studios has worked with the BBC for more than 12 years across a range of creative and technology engagements, designing and developing games, apps and digital experiences, including the Let It Grow virtual gardening game for Blue Peter, pictured, and the Dash and Blink language games for BBC Bitesize.
However, the new appointment represents a significant expansion of its role.
Aer Studios partnered with Portishead-based agency Wreel to ensure it could offer end-to-end creative, design and tech services to fulfil the remit.
Wreel will now support Aer Studios with creative and brand design capabilities.
Aer Studios MD Tom Harber, pictured, said: “Our appointment to the Digital Design Roster marks a significant step change in our partnership allowing us to considerably broaden our strategic and creative contribution.
“And with a glimpse at the scope of work and the ambitions of the UX & Design team, we couldn’t be more excited to get going. It has also been great to have been able to engage Wreel and together showcase the creative and tech firepower in the South West.”
