Bath-headquartered restaurant and food retail group Walcot Group has snapped up an historic pub in the city as it continues its expansion.

The group, which opened the 150-cover Walcot House on Walcot Street in 2019, has major plans for new addition The White Hart in Widcombe, pictured.

Built in the 1700s, the grade II-listed pub features a large central bar, open kitchen and a secluded courtyard, along with an upstairs private dining space for up to 40 people.

Having been closed for the past four months, it will now undergo an extensive refurbishment to preserve and restore the site’s historic features before re-opening later this year.

The Walcot Group is also preparing a planning application to add 10 more bedrooms, taking the total on site to 18.

The Walcot Group’s directors Martin and Debbie Still previously owned the award-winning Pear Tree in Whitley, Wiltshire, and the Methuen Arms Pub & Hotel in Corsham.

The group includes Solina Pasta in Bath, Mother & Wild in Corsham and Little Walcot, a neighbourhood restaurant which opened in Frome in April as well as Walcot House and Green Street Butchers in Bath.

Martin Still said: "We’re excited to return to our publican roots with The White Hart. It’s a beautiful, much-loved boozer, and we’re looking forward to putting it back at the heart of the community in Widcombe.

“We’ve been looking for the right pub in Bath for a few years, and we’re delighted to have found it."
