Architects and builders from the Bath area have been recognised in an awards scheme to promote excellence in local building and design.

Now in their 14th year, Bath & North East Somerset Council’s Building Control Awards for Building & Design Quality celebrate those who excel in their work in the area.

Among the winners were Bath architects WhiteBOX and Designscape and building firms Ashford Homes (SW) of Melksham and Batheaston-based H Mealing & Sons.

The awards were again presented by Bath MP Don Foster, Elaine Marson, chairman of sponsors Bath Stone Group, council chairman Neil Butters and Philip Mansfield, its building control manager.

Cabinet member for homes and planning Tim Ball said: “Once again the judges have been impressed by the good number of high-quality nominations. The winners cover the wide range of quality work undertaken in our area from small domestic extensions to larger commercial schemes and works to listed buildings.

“It is really good that the building control section can use this scheme to promote high-quality in building construction and design in our area and I would like to congratulate the winners of this year’s awards for their high quality work.”

The winners of the awards received an inscribed Bath Aqua glass bowl and framed certificate at an award staged in the Banqueting Room of the Guildhall.

Winners from these awards will be entered into the regional Local Authority Building Control (LABC) Building Excellence awards and possibly then into the national LABC Building Excellence awards.
