More than 100,000 passengers are expected to pass through Bristol Airport over the Jubilee Bank Holiday – from tomorrow to Tuesday – with tomorrow and Saturday set to be the busiest days.
Airlines and tour operators are reporting hefty demand, with destinations within the eurozone as well as this summer’s four new destinations – the Greek island of Skiathos, Budapest, Zurich and Naples – proving popular.
At the same time arrivals are expected to be strong as people from around the UK and overseas fly in to meet friends and family.
Passengers will find a street party atmosphere at the airport with traditional refreshments including iced lemonade, cakes and jam tarts. Shops and restaurants in the terminal will be decorated with bunting and flags and staff will join in the holiday theme by dressing in red, white and blue. On Saturday, a magician will provide entertainment to families in the departure lounge.
Passengers are being reminded to allow extra time for their journey to the airport as roads and public transport are likely to be busier than usual.
Aviation director Shaun Browne said: “While many people across the South West fly off for a well-earned break, we expect to welcome plenty of visitors to the region as well. With the Olympics to come, this summer is a great opportunity to showcase the UK as a tourist destination, and Bristol Airport will be working hard to make a great first impression.”
