Bath Building Society has opened its annual charity awards scheme to entries from local charities and community organisations.
The awards, now in their eighth year, were established to support as many local initiatives as possible from the growing number of requests for help received by the society.
Cash grants made up of one worth £1,500, two worth £1,000 and four of £500 are on offer along with three pairs of hot air balloon tickets for charities to use to raise more funds.
Society chief executive Dick Jenkins, said: “Since we launched the awards the number of applications has increased year on year and through the programme we aim to help as many community groups and charities in the West Country as possible.
“There are so many small groups that are located in our patch that are striving to help as many people as possible. We want to be able to help them do their work which is so important.”
Each application is reviewed by a panel of judges led by Mr Jenkins. The winners will attend an awards ceremony at The Mayor’s Parlour in July.
Chris Jones, chair of Zenith Youth Theatre Group in Bath, which won the top donation last year, said: “Winning £1,500 in our golden anniversary year last year marked a significant milestone for our group.
“The money went towards sound and lighting equipment at our rehearsal venue St Marks Community Centre in Widcombe. This will benefit all members of the local community for many years to come.”
To enter, charities or community groups must:
• Turnover less than £200,000 a year, and
• Operate and benefit people in Bath Building Society’s business areas of Bath and North East Somerset, Somerset, Wiltshire, Gloucestershire and Bristol.
