Former Barclays Bank regional chairman Simon Moore has been appointed CBI South West regional director.
He will act as the voice of business in the region, will be responsible for all CBI South West member companies, and will represent the region’s business leaders on key policy and regulatory issues.
His main priorities will include improving access to finance for businesses, promoting the region as an attractive location for investment and improving its skills base.
He will also manage the calendar of high-profile CBI events for the regional business community.
Simon replaces David Rosser, who is on secondment to the Welsh Assembly.
CBI director-general John Cridland said: “I am delighted to welcome Simon to his new role and look forward to working closely with him on behalf of the CBI’s South West members.
“Simon’s years of experience working with the region’s businesses means that he is very well positioned to represent their interests and ensure that national governments understand what makes the South West unique.”
Simon said: “The South West is a region rich in possibilities and it is my role to be a strong voice for our business community in government, to ensure that policy at all levels supports and promotes our businesses at a critical time.
“It is essential that we attract investment to the area to create jobs and business opportunities to help stimulate economic growth in the South West. I look forward to working with all CBI member companies for the benefit of the region as a whole.”
Simon was born and educated in the region, is a graduate of Exeter University and served in The Gloucestershire Regiment before a 20-year career in corporate banking, working in London, New York and for the last nine years in Bristol.
He has recently acted as a consultant to Grant Thornton in Bristol and is a governor at the University of the West of England. Simon is also a former council member of CBI South West, a board member of the Government Office of the South West, and a member of the Bristol Common Purpose Advisory Group.
