Former Bath and England rugby player John Hall has joined city-based property company Rengen as strategic investment advisor to assist with its continued growth.

John, pictured, who won 21 caps with England between 1984 and 1994, is an experienced business leader having run his own sports consultancy and more recently acted as consultant to a portfolio of clients across a range of sectors.

He joins Rengen, which has been behind a number of Bath’s recent high-profile redevelopments, following the firm’s strong growth in 2022.

The firm, a subsidiary of Bristol-based multi-disciplinary property consultancy Iesis, which was started by former Bath Rugby and Welsh international Iestyn Lewis, has funding in place for a number of new projects this year.

Specialising in complex, brownfield sites in sensitive locations, Rengen has worked on a wide range of development sectors, including residential, student, leisure, hospitality and commercial property since its launch in 2007.

Its Bath schemes have included transforming  the city’s former Labour Exchange building on James Street West into a mixed-use scheme with 78 student rooms over three new floors and 4,000 sq ft of commercial space on the ground floor.

More recently it redeveloped a former retail site on Pulteney Bridge into Rengen House, pictured, creating not only a base for its development team in the city but a boutique co-working space with meeting rooms.

Current projects underway in Bath include the Scala cinema in Oldfield Park, which it hopes to partially demolish and refurbish to create a shop, dance studio and flats, and Banglo House development on Lower Bristol Road, where it is creating 16 units for key workers with a ground-floor restaurant.

It is also active in Bristol, where its schemes include the final phase of the city’s Paintworks creative quarter, as well as projects in Cardiff, Worcester and Southampton.

Iestyn Lewis said: “We are thrilled to bring John into our organisation, having known him for over 30 years I have no doubt he will bring the right blend of drive, leadership and energy to his new role, and I am sure he will serve as a thought leader for our team, and I anticipate an excellent working relationship.”

After retiring from playing in the mid 90s, John Hall spent five years in various coaching and managements roles, including director of rugby at Bath and Irish club Garryowen.

His PGIR sports consultancy, which specialises in sports analysis and data management, enjoyed strong business relationships with many of the world’s leading sports organisations and national governing bodies.

Since exiting the firm in 2016, he has developed a portfolio of clients as a consultant, supporting organisations with their programmes of growth, investment, purpose, and strategic relationships.
