Green electricity supplier Good Energy has won ‘best business initiative’ at the Climate Week awards in recognition of the Chippenham-based firm's pioneering promotion of 100% renewable energy.
The awards aim to raise the profile of the most inspirational and impressive actions taking place in every sector of society to allow people to live and work more sustainably across Britain.
The winners were announced at the Climate Week 2014 launch event in London where the keynote speaker was climate change minster Greg Barker.
Good Energy founder and chief executive Juliet Davenport said: “Good Energy was set up over a decade ago to give people the opportunity to help tackle climate change by switching to a 100% renewable electricity supplier and supporting individuals to generate their own renewable energy. It’s great to be recognised for our work with this award.
“We had fantastic customer growth in 2013 across the business, and we’ve had a great year developing new renewable sources.”
Good Energy has more than 40,000 renewable electricity customers and 15,000-plus gas customers. It works with a community of more than 59,000 small and medium scale renewable electricity generators, and is the owner of Delabole Wind Farm, the UK’s first commercial wind farm.
It has targeted the development of 110MW of capacity of new renewable electricity generation assets by 2016.
It won first place in the 2014 Which? energy company customer satisfaction survey – the third year running it has achieved top ranking.
