Bailbrook House Hotel in Bath is to undergo an extensive refurbishment programme over the next two years following its acquisition by the Hand Picked Hotels group.
The Grade-II*-listed, three-star hotel was acquired from investor clients of real estate advisory company Delancey for an undisclosed sum.
Set in 20 acres of gardens, it has 78 bedrooms and 30 meeting rooms, a restaurant and bar and fitness, beauty and spa facilities.
Kent-based Hand Picked, which describes itself as “a collection of architecturally-splendid country house hotels”, owns 18 hotels across the UK, including in London, Edinburgh and Snowdonia. Bailbrook House is its first in the South West.
Founder Julia Hands said: “We have been searching for some time for the right opportunity to provide Hand Picked Hotels with a strategic presence in the South West.
“Bailbrook House Hotel has enormous potential and we will be using our extensive experience of working with listed properties to deliver a sensitive refurbishment that will enhance its heritage. Once this has taken place, Bailbrook House Hotel will become part of the Hand Picked Hotels portfolio.”
Bailbrook House was designed in the early 19th century by celebrated Bath architect Dr Denham Skeet as a private country residence for John Eveleigh, a wealthy lawyer.
It was acquired by Hilwood Resorts & Hotels in 2007.
