Court of Protection, estate planning and care matters lawyer Heledd Wyn, an associate solicitor at Bath law firm Mowbray Woodwards has been appointed to the board of trustees of leading dementia research charity BRACE.
Heledd, pictured, is a passionate advocate for helping and supporting vulnerable and older people, their families and their carers. She a regular commentator in the legal press on issues relating to estate planning, care and mental capacity and is also an active social media commentator on these topics.
Heledd believes the importance of research into dementia and having support networks in place for those affected will continue to grow as life expectancy increases. It is predicted that a million people will be living with dementia in the UK by 2025.
BRACE, a leading light in the fight against dementia, raises funds and supports research into what causes dementia in its various forms. It aims to achieve earlier diagnosis of dementia, giving new treatments and knowledge of prevention more time to make a difference. It also works hard to find new and more powerful treatments for dementia sufferers.
Heledd said: “As an ageing population, we must accept that dementia is one of the key issues that we need to deal with as a society. There is still much more research to be done to establish its causes, diagnose the condition early enough to ensure treatment is effective and develop new treatments that can halt the progression of dementia in its tracks.
“I am delighted to be appointed to the board of Trustees for BRACE. As a charity dedicated to funding research into dementia, all money that is raised helps fund crucial research that gives real optimism for the future – and perhaps, it is hoped, eventually, a cure.”
Heledd joined Mowbray Woodwards last year from the Bristol office of national firm Clarke Willmott, where she worked for two years
