‘Tech for good’ agency Digital Wonderlab has become the latest to firm in the Bath area to achieve the coveted B Corp status while also pledging to donate at least 1% of its sales to environmental causes.
Digital Wonderlab founder and CEO Nathan Baranowski said the double commitment was the culmination of 15 years of work during which it had been guided by its ethos of creating a positive legacy.
The Bradford on Avon-based agency has joined other Bath area firms with B Corp status, including specialist brand consultancy The House, which became the first in the city to achieve the status in 2017, and creative firms Clearly, Mytton Williams, Agency UK, Storm Consultancy and Edit.
Others are global health and social development consultancy and fund manager Mannion Daniels, Leadership Coaching, which empowers leaders to raise their game, Brevio, a social enterprise on a mission to simplify grant research and applications, and overseas property portal Kyero.
The B Corp verification process measures a company’s social and environmental performance and, if successful, proves its commitment to operating as a force for good.
Digital Wonderlab, which describes itself as the most ethical award-winning agencies there is, joins the B Corps’ network of 6,000 organisations in 80 countries and 150 industries worldwide.
Strengthening its commitment to its mantra of ‘tech for good’, it has also joined 1% for the Planet, through which it pledges to donate at least 1% of its annual sales to support environmental organisations and projects.
Nathan said the B-Corp status allowed the agency to solidify its commitment and, through B Corps’ continuous monitoring and evidencing, ensure that commitment continued to be met.
He added: “For 15 years we have worked with charities, organisations and individuals focused on tackling society’s big challenges.
“Creating positive change and taking action is what Digital Wonderlab is all about. We are good people – we care about each other, our community, our wider society and our planet, so we’ve cemented this by becoming part of two leading global movements.
“For us being a certified B Corp commits us legally to placing planet and people before profit, while challenging us to be an even better business through the robust assessment process and goals tracker to focus on what matters to us as a team and our clients.”
Last year Digital Wonderlab donated £60,000 in discounted revenue to charities and not-for-profits. It also delivered 1,476 hours of pro bono work and enabled the charities it works with to raise more than £350,000 in digital donations.
Nathan added: “As a company and as individuals, we’re fully aware of the hard-hitting reality of what is happening to our planet.
“Giving at least 1% of our revenue to causes that support regenerating and averting climate catastrophes is simply a no brainer. We’re looking forward to supporting local and international charity partners through this initiative.”
1% for the Planet CEO ate Williams said just 3% of total philanthropy went to the environment and only 5% of that came from businesses.
“The planet needs bigger support than this, and our growing network of business members are doing vital work to increase giving and support on-the-ground action. We’re excited to welcome Digital Wonderlab to our global movement,” she added.
