The first direct flights between the West of England and the Danish capital of Copenhagen have been launched by easyJet, the largest operator at Bristol Airport. The four-times weekly service operates on Mondays, Wednesdays, Fridays and Sundays, with easyJet saying it will appeal to business and leisure passengers. One-way fares start from £24.99, including taxes.

EasyJet UK commercial manager Ali Gayward, said:  “We are delighted to be celebrating our latest route launch from Bristol Airport which will provide passengers from the South West with the only direct route to one of Europe’s most dynamic cities. Copenhagen offers visitors a rich culture and access to stunning tourist attractions. The route also further strengthens our commitment to offering travellers in the region the best choice of destinations at the lowest possible fares.”

Bristol Airport aviation director Shaun Browne added: “This new flight fills a long-standing gap on our destination map, meeting demand for a link between the South West and Scandinavia. Business links between Bristol and Denmark are growing, and a direct service to the capital can only help strengthen this relationship.”

Copenhagen has repeatedly been recognised as one of the cities with the best quality of life, and is also considered one of the most environmentally friendly cities in the world – it pipped Bristol to the post to be awarded the title of European Green Capital 2014.

Passengers checking in for the inaugural flight at Bristol Airport were given free Danish pastries while one passenger won a pair of return tickets for their next journey.
