Purpose-driven comms consultancy Second Mountain has been selected as a finalist in three categories at the 2024 Creative Bath Awards, capping a year in which it strategically switched its offering to focus on content creation.
The independent agency was launched in Bath during the 2020 pandemic with the aim of helping good people do good.
Since then, Second Mountain has worked with more than 20 international clients, winning a clutch of major awards for itself and its founder Chartered PR practitioner Ben Veal, pictured.
It has also changed its emphasis away from traditional PR to content creation, including in 2022 launching its Good Journeys podcast and YouTube show, which has gone from strength-to-strength over three seasons and 30-plus episodes.
Now Second Mountain, which is based at Glove Factory Studios in Holt, near Bradford on Avon, has been shortlisted at Creative Bath Awards for the Creativity for Good, Founder & Entrepreneur and Content Creator titles.
New for 2024, the Content Creator category celebrates businesses that are committed to producing engaging content for themselves, clients or for online communities.
Staged at Bath’s Komedia concert venue on 22 May, the awards, now in their fifth year, showcase Bath’s brilliant creative and tech businesses and individuals.
Good Journeys with Second Mountain shares lessons learned from in-depth, honest conversations with inspiring guests from all walks of life. These have included former hostage and humanitarian Sir Terry Waite, bestselling children’s author Rachel Bright, Wiltshire-based neurodiversity champion and author Pete Wharmby and happiness coach Sarah Perrett.
Described by Ben as “much more than a podcast”, each episode is a multifaceted piece of content, published across all major platforms as an audio podcast episode but also professionally produced by Cambridgeshire-based Tall Oak Production for YouTube as well as being brought to life in engaging, short clips for Instagram, TikTok and other social channels, subtitled to support accessibility and summarised with supporting editorial content.
Following the success of the first two seasons of Good Journeys, Second Mountain took its content creation a step further late last year with the introduction of a second show, Wrestling Life with Ben Veal – a specialist production aimed at the niche — but very wide-reaching — global professional wrestling audience.
Ben added: “At the heart of each and every single conversation that I have with my guests is purpose: why do they do what they do, what drives them, and what have they learnt along the way.
“As a journalist, these have always been the aspects of business that have fascinated me most — now, it’s a professional joy and a privilege to share the stories of so many good people via Second Mountain’s two shows, and it’s a huge honour to be a Creative Bath Awards finalist this year.”
Second Mountain, which specialises in working with charities, not-for-profits and purpose-driven business leaders, is a previous Creative Bath award winner, being named Start Up of the Year in 2022.
Ben has also won a number of individual awards including the UK’s national CIPR EXCELLENCE Award for Independent PR Practitioner of the Year in 2023.
