The University of Bath has been praised for its support for ethically sourced products in the region’s top Fairtrade awards.
The University claimed top spot in the University category, beating Bath Spa University, which won a Silver award, and the University of the West of England (UWE), which landed Gold.
Judges in the Fairtrade Business Awards praised the improvement demonstrated by the University of Bath since last year, when the hotly contested award was shared between UWE and the University of Bristol.
They pointed to a new hospitality venue at the University of Bath, which stocked Fairtrade products, as well as the fact that the cafes, bars and shops on campus have added 33 new Fairtrade items.
The Best Fairtrade University or College Award was one of nine presented today at a ceremony held in the New Bristol Brewery.
A full list of winners with photos from the awards ceremony will appear in next week’s Bath Business News e-bulletin.
The awards, now in its sixth year, recognise the contribution that businesses, organisations and institutes in the region make in support of Fairtrade by buying certified Fairtrade products for the workplace and raising awareness of ethical trade issues amongst their staff, customers and peers.
