Law firm Thrings has extended its support for couples looking to separate amicably after two of its family lawyers gained qualifications to offer its ‘One Couple One Lawyer’ service.

Legal director Anna Patterson, pictured, left, and associate Zhenia Cann, pictured, right, are now offering the unique approach from the firm’s Bath office following a period of training through national body Resolution.

The service, as suggested by the name, enables a separating couple to take a more amicable route by receiving advice and assistance from by a single lawyer.

While not necessarily suitable for all couples going through a separation, One Couple One Lawyer has proved to be to be a valuable alternative to traditional divorce – encouraging collaboration with clear guidance and offering a range of benefits that promote a more positive transition while keeping costs low.

Anna, who is based in Thrings’ Bath and Swindon offices, said: “Divorce can be an emotional time for a couple as they look to separate and continue their lives apart.

“But while the process has traditionally been more adversarial, that doesn’t need to be the case and it is important for those that want to pursue a more constructive course of action to be given the option.”

Zhenia, based in the firm’s Bristol office, added: “With One Couple One Lawyer, clients can work together with their ex-partner to find a better way of resolving their disputes, giving them more control over the process with transparent and clear advice to secure a more holistic approach to their separation.”

Thrings head of family Matthew Kellow described Zhenja and Anna as two extremely skilled and compassionate lawyers who will always put the needs of their clients first.

“I am pleased to see them able to deliver the One Couple One Lawyer service, lessening the impact of divorce on everyone else involved and reducing the delay, stress and costs of the whole process.”

Key features of the service include:

  • Less conflictThrings provides an amicable environment for both partners to encourage cooperation and a less adversarial approach to reaching a resolution.
  • Resolution drivenBoth partners engage in the process fully with the aim of reaching a resolution outside of the court process.
  • Better communicationThrings provides a safe and supportive setting to improve communication, which is especially important for those with families who want to maintain a healthy coparenting relationship.
  • Saving cost and timeInstructing one lawyer instead of two could reduce costs. Couples can also dictate the timetable to better suit their needs.
  • ControlThe process can offer tailor-made solutions dependent on the family’s circumstances, as opposed to having the decision taken out of their hands in a court process.
  • Holistic approach. Thrings helps resolve any concerns and issues that arise during the process, incorporating joint experts such as pension and financial advisors as needed.

Thrings employs around 350 people in its seven offices across the South West and South with a focus on enabling growth and success for its clients, contacts and staff.
