Bath businesses are being urged to take part in a cycle trail across the city as it prepares to welcome the Tour of Britain. The trail of 30 bikes will also celebrate Bath’s standing as a cycle-friendly city.
Up to 30 firms are being sought by trail organisers Bath & North East Somerset Council (B&NES) to display static bicycles at their premises. The council will provide the cycles and is working in partnership with Julian House Bike Workshop and the Princes Trust, which will be painting them red, white and blue.
A bicycle trail map will also be produced showing their locations to encourage residents and visitors to find them and tick them off as they explore the city.
The bikes will be provided free of charge on a first-come, first-served basis to businesses that are able to display them securely at their premises, make them visible to the public, and agree for their business to be marked on the map.
They will be on display for three weeks from August 18 until after the Tour of Britain, which comes to Bath on September 8.
Council cabinet member for community services Martin Veal said: “I encourage businesses, especially our independents – from cafes to financial and legal services – as well as our visitor attractions, to take part and help us create a fun cycle trail that will not only welcome the Tour of Britain riders, but which also helps us communicate that Bath welcomes cyclists and is a great city to visit by bike, irrespective of the historic constraints of the streets.
