Bath homeless charity Julian House is inviting the city’s firms to sharpen up their wits and enter a team for this year’s Brain of Bath quiz.
The annual event, now in its 22nd year, is a major fundraiser for the charity as well as a source of intense – but friendly – rivalry between local companies.
Up to 30 teams will battle it out at Bath Pavilion on Thursday, 16 October, to get their hands on the coveted winner’s trophy.
Teams compete over 10 challenging rounds spanning with categories in previous years ranging from song lyrics and spelling to geography and 20th century history.
The quiz will also include the now infamous What’s That Smell? round.
Julian House senior community events fundraiser Rachel Avent, who is organising the event, said moving it to the Bath Pavilion from the Assembly Rooms, where it took place last year, meant it could now be bigger and better than ever.
“This is always a popular event for us, but we are hoping some new teams will step forward to take on our existing trophy winners the Wine Vaults, who last year were impressive in their random knowledge,” she added.
“Whether it’s a team building event you’re looking for or just a great opportunity for an evening together, The Brain of Bath is a fantastic opportunity to support Julian House while having a fun night out.”
Rachel said Julian House faced a very real crisis with the huge increased costs at its emergency hostel, so this year more than ever the funds raised from the quiz will allow it to continue with its vital work supporting vulnerable people in Bath and across the South West.
This year’s Brain of Bath is again sponsored by Battens Solicitors and the Battens Charitable Trust (BCT).
Batten’s Bath office head of commercial property, Patrick Mears, said: “Battens Solicitors and the BCT are delighted to be the main sponsors of the prestigious Brain of Bath event.
“Julian House is highly regarded in Bath for the valuable role it plays in the city in improving the lives of homeless and vulnerable people.
“The BCT has supported the Brain of Bath quiz in the past and we look forward to taking part again in what is always an outstanding fundraising evening and great fun for all those involved.”
Last year’s event raised around £16,000 – a big increase on 2021’s total of £10,000.
The annual quiz night was the brainchild of a small group of Bath businesspeople who were concerned about the problem of homelessness in the city.
They launched it with three main objectives, which remain today – to raise funds for Julian House, to raise awareness of the difficult social issues surrounding homelessness and provide support for a dedicated research project at the University of Bath.
Firms can enter teams of up to 10 people now by clicking here.
The price also includes a light supper at the event, where there will also be a cash bar. Smaller businesses can book half a table and ca team up with another company on the night.
