Staff in Bath businesses are being invited to take part in city-based homeless charity Julian House’s Circuit of Bath Walk on September 25.
The event involves walking part, or all, of a spectacular 20-mile route around the edge of the city designed so walkers enjoy some stunning scenery as well as wonderful views across Bath.
The terrain is a mixture of well-used paths and public rights of way, limited sections of roadway, flat ground and, as this is Bath, hills.
The event is free to enter and participants are asked to raise sponsorship which will help Julian House to maintain and develop its projects supporting homeless and excluded individuals.
Highlights include Upper Swainswick, Solsbury Hill, Bathampton, Monkton Combe, Southstoke and Englishcombe.
The route not only enjoys stunning views but is also steeped in history and mystery. A booklet describing interesting snippets of local history has been researched and written by local historian Kirsten Elliott and will be available to buy by participants.
Those taking part can choose to walk between two and 20 miles in either direction thanks to a shuttle bus service between the five checkpoints making it a family friendly event.
Part of the route is buggy friendly and dogs on leads are welcome on the entire route. Everybody who completes the whole 20-mile route will receive a special medal.
Julian House was set up to offer direct support to some of the most marginalised people in society – the homeless.
Initially this was limited to offering food and shelter but other projects and services have been developed which not only address the symptoms of homelessness but also the underlying reasons why men and women are forced onto the streets.
Julian House’s projects such as its Meaningful Occupation Programmes and its social enterprises are targeted at preventing people becoming homeless by engaging them in meaningful activities, training and preparation for employment.
Julian House operates more than 20 different projects, accommodation sites and social enterprises in Bath, Bristol and Wiltshire, including a range of homeless services, support for those suffering domestic violence, addiction recovery, individuals with learning difficulties, work experience and training.
