Aspiring fashion designers can kick start their careers by entering a competition staged by Bath interior design firm Eton Design to create a red carpet dress.
The contest forms part of Bath in Fashion 2013 – the week-long festival that brings celebrities from the world of fashion to the city with talks, exhibitions, workshops and catwalk shows.
Entrants to the competition will use Eton Design’s selection of furnishing fabrics and trimmings in their creation.
The winner will walk away with their own sewing machine and pattern-making tools – the equipment needed for a student embarking on a course in fashion design.
Eton Design owner Nicholas Sheridan said: “In the world of interiors there is a close collaboration with fashion designer.
“Fashion designers such as Christian Lacroix and Jean-Paul Gaultier collaborate with the world of interior design designing extravagant furnishing fabrics with accessories, creating a fabulous fusion between interiors, fashion, and haute couture.
“Eton Design is keen to encourage young designers to show off their creative skills. As a relatively new business to the city, we felt that this would be a great way to get involved with Bath in Fashion.”
The competition is open to any sixth form/A Level student studying fashion or going onto higher education to study it. They must be in full-time education based in Bath or within a 15-mile radius of the city.
Entry forms are available from the Eton Design showroom on Walcot St. The deadline for submissions is March 10.
Five finalists will have their designs developed and made up into outfits by professional pattern makers and seamstresses. These will be exhibited for two months at the Eton Design showroom from April 13
Bath in Fashion takes place between April 13 and 21. Bath Business News is delighted to be a media partner of Bath in Fashion.
