Bath University has appointed former Sony marketing director Tim Kaner to the new post of director of marketing & communications.
The role includes responsibility developing the university brand and managing its corporate communications, imaging design and print service, marketing and web services.
Tim, who took up the post today, brings more than two decades’ worth of marketing and communications experience at the highest level, most recently at leading strategic brand consultancy The Value Engineers.
As director of Sony Europe’s Marketing Strategy Office until 2010 he led a change programme to build excellence in customer-centric marketing across its European electronics division.
He was previously director of marketing communications, having started his career in advertising.
Tim said: “I can think of no better time to join the team at Bath. I am committed to doing everything in my power to help the university continue to build on its already excellent reputation in what is clearly a time of significant change for the whole sector.”
Vice-chancellor professor Dame Glynis Breakwell said: “Tim brings a vast amount of marketing and communications experience and knowledge with him, and a strong record of achievement across large and complex commercial organisations.
“He joins Bath at a challenging time with an increasingly competitive higher education global market.
“We already have an international reputation for the high quality of our research and teaching, but Tim will provide the dynamic leadership to ensure we maximise every opportunity to enhance that reputation still further.”
Born and raised in York, Tim is a graduate of the University of Cambridge and holds an MBA from the Open University Business School.
