Future, the Bath-based global media group, has appointed the former chief financial officer of YouGov as a non-executive director.

Alan Newman, who spent nine years at the international internet-based market research and data analytics firm, brings with him significant media and plc experience.

His previous roles were at accountants Ernst & Young (now EY) and KPMG and he has also served as international finance director of UK publisher Longman and group development manager of MAI (now United Business Media).

As well as sitting on the main board he will also chair Future’s audit committee. The group, whose titles span technology, games, music, film, photography, creative & design, field sports and science & knowledge, has also appointed existing non-executive director Hugo Drayton as chair of its remuneration committee.

Hugo has served on Future’s board and been a member of its remuneration committee since December 2014. He is CEO of London-based international brand advertising company Inskin Media.

Future non-executive chairman Richard Huntingford said: “I am delighted to welcome Alan to the board. He brings with him a wealth of relevant media, plc and financial experience. I also congratulate Hugo on his appointment as chair of the remuneration committee and thank him for his continued contribution to Future.”

Future, whose leading brands including TechRadar, PC Gamer and GamesRadar+, posted a 43% leap in annual sales to £84.4m last November after a major root-and-branch restructuring lasting several years and including scores of jobs losses at its Bath headquarters along with the disposal and acquisition of titles.
