Venues in Bath and North East Somerset are being asked to give a musical gift to help a range of local good causes.

Councillor Rob Appleyard, chairman of B&NES Council, is hoping organisers of events taking place over the next few months will help with donations to boost the Chairman’s Quartet Charity Fund.

The fund, which helps groups and organisations across the district, was set up 10 years ago by the then chairman councillor Les Kew.

Managed by the charity Quartet, it has helped a range of projects, from providing transport for an elderly group so they could attend a once-a-week lunch club to kitting out a children’s football team. Now Cllr Appleyard is hoping to boost the fund's coffers with his Harmony in Your Community Fundraising Appeal.

He said “I’m asking venues that are holding events if they would consider raising money for the Chairman’s Fund.

"We are hoping that organisers of events taking place between now and April will support our fundraising endeavours. We are also asking musicians if they would support us by performing at our music evenings.

"The culmination of these fundraising events will be a showcase concert in April featuring some of the musicians and acts who have taken part in the fundraising events.

“We can organise our team of supporters to make bucket collections at the events or it would be marvellous if the event organisers felt able to donate from ticket sales. I’m also hoping to be able to pop in to as many events as possible to lend my support."

The first event to support Harmony in Your Community was staged by Bath-born recording artist Clyve Waite – the concert doubling up as the launch of his new band Soul City Foundation. It sold out within two days of the tickets going on sale.

Clyve said: I am so happy and blessed to originate from this beautiful city and, despite spending a lot of time in New York over the past decade, Bath is always my home. I have always believed the importance of supporting your own community and local charities so helping raise money for the Harmony in the Community charity fundraising is a feeling very close to my heart. I also hope that Soul City Foundation can get involved in future events and raise more for the charity this year”.

Cllr Appleyard also thanked Ralph Allen Press for designing and printing the Harmony in Your Community flyers and posters.
