Chippenham-based renewable energy company Good Energy has been recognised at one of the UK’s top green energy awards.
The 100% renewable electricity and green gas firm scooped the New Energy Champion of the Year trophy at the 2016 New Energy and Cleantech awards in recognition of its achievements since it was founded in 1999.
Managing director David Brooks said: “It’s a huge honour to have won this award as it recognises everyone’s hard work in making Good Energy what it is today.
“With the signing of the Paris climate change agreement in New York, there’s never been a more crucial time to think about where our energy comes from.
“Our mission to tackle climate change remains at the heart of everything we do. We strongly believe we have the opportunity to use the footprint of our business as a force for good and setting the standard for others to follow.”
Winners were chosen by a panel of experts based on innovation, sustainability and awarded those individuals or companies playing a pivotal role in the shaping of the future green energy and cleantech sector.
The award joins a long list of accolades at Good Energy. The firm was recognised as Company of the Year at the 2015 BusinessGreen Leaders awards, Leader of the Year at the 2015 Renewable Energy awards and Social Impact Company of the Year at the 2015 Small Cap awards.
Good Energy supplies 100% renewable electricity to homes and businesses across the UK. It has 68,000 renewable electricity and 38,800 gas customers and operates seven solar farms and two wind farms producing 52.5MW a year. It also works with a community of 93,500 small and medium-scale renewable electricity generators.
In February it pledged to double its workforce to more than 600 people over the next five years as it maintains its rapid growth.
