Good Energy, the Chippenham-based renewable electricity supplier and generator, has gained planning consent for its seventh solar farm.
Approval for the 24MW solar farm in Dorset was originally granted in November 2013 but its development was halted by a judicial review.
The site at Mapperton Farm, near Sturminster Marshall, has now been given the green light and will generate enough electricity to power around 6,344 homes. Construction is likely to start later this year.
Good Energy founder and CEO Juliet Davenport OBE said: “We already have six fully operational solar farms and we can now look forward to adding a seventh site to our portfolio.
“Each solar farm that gains planning consent offers the opportunity for more renewable electricity to be produced and supplied to customers here in the UK. This latest site will deliver benefits to local people through a community fund, and to the surrounding area via a tailored biodiversity plan.”
Good Energy, which has more than 55,000 renewable electricity customers and 28,000 gas customers, also owns Delabole Wind Farm, the UK’s first commercial wind farm, and owns and operates Hampole Wind Farm, near Doncaster.
