Bath Building Society has selected Mentoring Plus, which helps young people who are struggling with school, family or wellbeing, as its charity of the year.
The society, which has more than 20,000 savers and 1,200 mortgage customers, asked its 75-plus staff to nominate a charity close to their hearts and which does great work in the local community.
A shortlist of three was drawn up – with staff and members voting for Mentoring Plus as the winner.
Bath Building Society and Mentoring Plus will now work together throughout to raise awareness of the charity’s work supporting young people across Bath and North East Somerset who are facing challenges such as family breakdown, bereavement, isolation, experience of domestic violence or experience of being in, or leaving, care.
Mentoring Plus community manager Becki Fox said: “We are delighted that Bath Building Society employees and members have chosen us as their charity of the year and look forward to working with them to help us raise much-needed funds.
“We couldn't continue to work with as many children and young people as we do without the support of brilliant local businesses like Bath Building Society who invest in local charities and communities.”
Bath Building Society chief executive Kevin Gray added: “We can’t wait to get started with Mentoring Plus – what a great way to help young people when they may be struggling at school or with life in general.
“We hope to raise awareness of the children’s mentoring services they work tirelessly to provide, giving every child the opportunity to reach their full potential.”
Bath Building Society was established in 1904 to offer savings and mortgages to the local community.
Today it employs more than 75 staff in its Queen Square head office and two branches in the city.
