Bath-based main contractor Halsall Construction has defied the gloom in the construction sector by landing orders in January worth three times its monthly average last year.
The firm kicked off 2013 by winning orders worth £3.4m against £1m for a typical month in 2012.
The work, secured through competitive tendering and negotiation, spans residential, education and industrial clients across the South West.
With the increase in turnover Halsall has strengthened its operational and pre-development teams with the appointments of a new contracts manager, new business and marketing manager, and procurement surveyor.
The firm, which began trading in 1973 and is a wholly-owned subsidiary of Bath-based Shepperton Group, is now looking to recruit further site managers.
Managing director Andy Corp said: “We are really pleased with the results, particularly as we anticipate positive outcome on planning decisions on three projects which will see us enter the next financial year with 70% of our forecast order book of £19m achieved.
“With the difficult economic environment we are all facing it is pleasing to see that our strategy of growing and servicing our existing customers exceptionally well, while expanding our capability is proving successful.”
Among the new orders are a project for Colston School in Bristol, a warden’s home for Bristol University, partnering with Vinci Construction ad build under the Code for Sustainable Homes Level 5, four luxury houses for a private developer in Olveston, South Gloucestershire, an extension to the Façade Hoists factory in Radstock, which Halsall built 15 years ago, and residential developments in Wellington and Lyme Regis.
