Historic Bath pub The Boater is to re-open next week following a multi-million pound refurbishment by owners, London brewery Fuller, Smith & Turner.
The 200-year-old Argyle Street pub is undergoing a complete interior transformation to create four unique bars and three distinctive dining areas. It will also feature specially- commissioned artwork by renowned Bristol-based graffiti artist Felix Braun.
Because of its proximity to The Rec, The Boater is a favourite among rugby fans on matchdays but also attracts tourists and a loyal group of regulars.
However, Fuller’s, which bought The Boater last year, recognised that it had lost some of its original splendour over the years and badly needed some care and attention.
It has ensured the integration of the old with the new properly represents what customers expect from a modern pub, including making it a lot more female-friendly and welcoming for all customers.

The Boater’s weir-side garden has been transformed with new seating areas for casual as well as a raised terrace which will have table service.
The garden will also have a grill/bar area and a new entrance from the weir-side walk.
The cellar bar will seat 25-30 people and stage live music, comedy and cabaret. It will have a late food service on Friday and Saturday and more than 30 beers, including the Fuller’s draught range as well as guest ales and bottled beers.
The ground floor will have 40 covers, a large bar area and an extensive drinks list including several guest beers and ciders from local artisan breweries. It will serve more traditional bar meals alongside some exciting new dishes.
The 38-cover first-floor dining room is being branded as Upstairs @ The Boater and will have an “intimate and distinctive dining experience”, according to Fuller’s, serving modern English cuisine between 12-3pm and 6-10pm.
Graffiti artist Felix Braun, who has worked alongside Bristol street art greats such as Banksy, has been commissioned to create bespoke artwork for The Boater’s cellar bar. He will also design a number of limited and licensed pieces reflecting elements of Bath for use across various mediums such as coasters and menus.
The transformation of The Boater completes Fuller’s £7.5m investment in the three Bath iconic pubs it bought last year. The refurbished Huntsman and the Crystal Palace have already reopened.
The new-look Boater will join in the Bath Music Festival with live music is booked as part of the Party in the City night on May 16.
The Boater will re-open to the public next Friday April 25.
