Two firms that moved onto an industrial estate earlier less than a year ago have found it fertile ground for growth and have already expanded to take more space.
Site investigations and geotechnical services firm Topdrill, and The Paper Bag Company, which supplies plain and printed promotional bags to retailers, opened bases on the Woodland Industrial Estate in Westbury, which is owned by Bath-based commercial property group HPH.
Milton Keynes-headquartered Topdrill launched its 2,380 sq ft base, pictured, with seven staff on the estate to serve clients across the South West and Wales. It has now moved into two new units totaling 3,850 sq ft.
Topdrill managing director Chris Pow said: “Despite having the previous unit for less than a year our continued expansion meant that we soon ran out of space.
“We were looking at alternative units and off-site storage options as we were happy on the estate and didn’t want the upheaval of moving again, so when we found out that the adjacent site had been acquired and was under renovation it was just perfect.
“We spoke to HPH and negotiated a move that gave us the space we needed and a move literally across the road. Now we have enough space for at least the next three to four years and even an office.”
The firm was established in 2006 and uses a range of specialist rig equipment to perform site investigations for thousands of clients throughout the UK, providing detailed analysis to assist with a range of construction projects.
Traditionally working for a range of rail clients including VolkerFitzpatrick, Murphy, BCS Design and Amey, Topdrill has expanded its range of services and now works across a broader spectrum of industries.
The Paper Bag Company has taken an additional unit of 2,500 sq ft for storage after relocating earlier this year from smaller premises on the Northacre Industrial Estate around 1km away.
The move enabled it to install the first digital printer of its kind in the UK to supply custom-made printed bags on demand.
The firm, which was launched by director Jon Marling in 2006, supplies plain and printed paper promotional bags to retailers across the UK made as well as reusable carriers made from cotton, jute and canvas.
Mr Marling, pictured, said, “The Paper Bag Company is continuing to thrive here at the Woodland Industrial Estate. We moved here less than a year ago and continued demand for our products has meant that we have needed to take additional space to allow us to fulfil more orders.
“HPH has been fantastic in supporting our smooth expansion into a second unit on the site. We are very pleased to have been able to grow our business here in the South West, and we look forward to staying here for years to come.”
HPH managing director Lindsay Holdoway added: “We always aim to work with our tenants and we are very pleased that both Topdrill and The Paper Bag Company have seen their businesses expand following their move to the Woodland Industrial Estate over the past year. Both are very well-run local businesses providing local employment.”
Other businesses on the Woodland Industrial Estate include online wedding gift list firm Prezola, dress retailer Vestry Online and independent online book shop A Great Read.
An adjacent site acquired by HPH is now nearing completion with only one of the 11 units available.
