Big Bath City Bid, the community ownership scheme for Bath City FC, has unveiled a new logo and signed up a string of high-profile backers.

The bid has set a goal of raising £1.4m through a community share offer to buy the Conference South club, satisfy its creditors and set it on the road to a sustainable future.

A prospectus setting out a business plan and structure for the new club will be launched at a high-profile event in the coming weeks. A new website bigbathcitybid.org.uk and the Twitter account @BigBathCityBid are now live along with the new logo and identity, which has been developed by local graphic designer Jay Collett.

New signings for the bid are Jon Bickley, managing director and co-founder of Bath magazine firm Anthem Publishing, will be the bid’s new chair.

Nick Thompson, chief executive of Bath internet telephony, broadband and web hosting firm Gradwell Communications and former managing director of Hull City FC, joins as a commercial advisor.

Also joining the executive team are Jamie Malley, director at Frome-based Sandstone Media and a qualified coach heavily involved in youth and community coaching initiatives in Somerset, and Simon Tapscott, head of DoGoodThings, a marketing and fundraising consultancy for good causes.

Jon Bickley said: “Bath City FC is the great unrecognised part of the city that can be something bigger and better for everyone. This is our opportunity to make Bath City FC a club everyone can have a stake in, enjoy being involved with and take pride in. I want other people to enjoy real football, right on their doorstep.”

Bath City FC Supporters Society chair Martin Powell welcomed the new team members. He said: “This clearly demonstrates how the community ownership approach can attract new talent, skills and expertise, getting more people invested and involved in Bath City FC.”
