An evening of fizz, canapés and history is being staged at Bath’s Fashion Museum as part of International Women’s Day on Thursday by catering firm Searcys and Bath’s Historic Venues.
The informal networking event will feature special guest June Hannam, Professor (Emerita) of Modern British History at UWE, who has published widely on the history of women.
She will bring to life the fascinating story of Mary Blathwayt, a suffragette who lived in Batheaston. Mary’s parasol is displayed in the museum’s ‘A History of Fashion in 100 objects’ exhibition, pictured.
The thought-provoking talk will also look at how life has changed for women in the past 100 years.
The evening will also include an exclusive viewing of the new Royal Women exhibition at the museum in the Assembly Rooms which explores the fashions worn by successive generations of women in the royal family.
Searcys holds the contract from Bath & North East Somerset Council as caterers for the city’s Roman Baths, Pump Room and Assembly Rooms, where it also stages dinners, weddings and private events.
This year marks 100 years since the first time some women in the UK had the right to vote.
